Fans of romantic fiction packed David’s Bookshop in Letchworth on Tuesday as We♥Libraries teamed up with Freya North for an evening of romance, writing – and a little bit of raunch.

The best-selling author gave her enthralled audience a sneak preview of her new novel, Rumours, ahead of its Thursday publication, and spoke about how it and her previous 11 novels were researched and written.
Freya, a passionate advocate for libraries, also spoke in support of the public library system and shared memories of writing many of her books in her local branch.
The wide-ranging talk, followed by questions from fans, covered topics as diverse as how to get started as a writer, how book covers are designed, which of her heroines were her favourites – and how her parents reacted to the racier scenes in her stories.

At the end of the event, which was organised as part of the Letchworth Festival, she signed copies of her books for fans, chatting with them and posing for photos.
We♥Libraries co-founder Andy Darley, who introduced the event, said: “What a brilliant evening – just like her books, Freya was funny, feisty and full of interest from start to finish.
“We’re very grateful to her for agreeing to come to Letchworth as the first date on the Rumours tour, and for putting on such a terrific show.
“For all of us there – readers, writers, booksellers and library supporters – it was an evening to celebrate the pleasures to be found in a good book and in a story well told.”
